THE JEWISH-YOGA EXPERIENCE

By Rachel Koontz

Teaching my first yoga class during ECO's Reform minyan was an incredible experience. I felt so blessed to have a big class (35 students!) that included both students and parents since it was Northwestern's Family Weekend. The blend of spirituality, relaxation and concentration was beautiful. I could really feel the energy in the room and sensed that people were enjoying themselves. I think my favorite part was when we did Awkward pose and talked about humility before God and before others. It's amazing how yoga teaches us not only to be flexible, but also to laugh, to let go, and to do our best to lose our egos. I am so grateful to Hillel for this experience and I hope to teach again soon!
